Ok Guys New Idea

Not really. We are here to share our experiences and views.
Not the same at all.....

Well, some things which aren't written as fact more or less become comparable to being fact. Oscars need 75g minimum, neon tetras are prone to death in new tanks, puffers are not typically community fish etc. These aren't facts say, but, they're easy enough to find on google, without the need to use a forum and ask, and these are questions which come up a lot.

Either way, this detracts from my original recommendation instead of having product reviews, having comparable statistics, all on the same page, for different products, medications, foods and other supplies, something which google does not offer.

Reading through this again I think that a page of comparison stats (eg this filter does this size of tank, has this attachments etc) is a good idea - maybe it would even pull in new members who find it via google?

^Agreed. It would also save trawling through some of the endless pap that gets thrown up by google when you do a search. :grr: Ideas about what's good for what tanks (filterwise etc) how likely they are to clog, personal experiences etc would be excellent. Might help some avoid the mistakes some of the rest of us made along the way.
Hugs,
P.

One of the most famous "person suing a board" stories is the Novak case. It is quite a saga. It was in the US of course.

Yes but i still fail to see how saying something like "The Ehim filters are good" and then giving pros (and no cons ) to this peice of hardware will get us sued.

But what would be the point in that? It wouldn't really be a review then. You could own a terrible piece of equipment, but if you state only good points about it, it wouldn't really be of much use to people?

Maybe we just need a negative "code" where we don't say anything actually bad about the product but just highlight it, as in:

"I have an eheim 3300 which is wonderful and brilliant and well worth the money - I also have a Fluval4+...."

So you only review recomended products then.

might as well just go look at the manufacturer's website if you're only going to put postive aspects. there's zero use to a review that can't provide an objective comparison detailing the pros and cons of an item.

for instance, i have a great heater that works well and is easy to operate. but all the black paint is rubbing off the front so i wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a display tank.

if i were writing a postive-only review, that information about the paint couldn't be presented. and the brand-new heater looks pretty slick and stylish--i bought it for my big attraction just for that reason. so someone else could easily decide from my review to follow suit and, boom! they're equally disappointed in the final product. essentially, my review was worthless because it only provided one half of the information necessary to make a decision.

likewise with a really powerful filter that makes an awful rattling noise; maybe not the best choice for the tank next to the television or the one in the bedroom. but if the negative aspects can't be presented... get used to subtitled movies and bedtime with earplugs.

biased reviews are worse than worthless; they are actually misleading.
