So after a lot of planning the sister's boyfriend has started construction on the fish rack!!

The set-up is listed below.

1 tank @ 18x12x12

4 tanks @ 18x10x10

Filtration will be various depending on set-up.

Tank 1 will be split into 2 with these 2 fish going in.

Side 1 will be a Betta with either some snails or some shrimp in. sand substrate, well planted with mixture of real and fake and possibly some bamboo stalks standing upright.

Side 2 will be a Dwarf Puffer, really heavily fake planted, sand substrate and maybe a touch of bogwood. (opinions on the bogwood please)

Tank 2

6 x Neolamprologus Multifasciatus a Tanganyikan shell-dweller that will be really at home in a tank this small and will hopefully breed!! Need to do a little research on habitat but ill no doubt include lots of rocks.

Tank 3

This will be a mini-Amazon biotope, again with fake plants, although not too many as it will be based on a clearwater section of the Amazon, to cut down on maintenance, sand substrate with Pygmy Corys and some sort of tetra.

Tank 4

Going for Asian style in this one but need help on which one, either a fast-flowing set-up with hillstream loaches and white clouds or a low pH, peat based tank for Gourami style fish. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Tank 5

Bit of a curveball here! Will be putting in a frog tank I think????? Need to speak to my local reptile/amphibian store to confirm what I can and can't have but think this is the way I am going to go, possibly an African Toad. So unless anyone can tempt me with an awesome small tank set-up for fish the amphibian will be the way forward for this one!!!

Look forward to the comments and constructive criticism if any!! Thanks again everyone!

All tanks sound great. :good:

Tank 1 - As long as neither fish can get to the other, sounds like a nice tank.

Tank 2 - Provided you can find a pair of Multies, then stick with just two. Some people buy a few and wait for them to pair off. They tend to build their own colonies when breeding and become very territorial, so one pair would be fine. Once they start breeding, you can expect new fry every few weeks.
Ideal set up is generally sand, tufa/ocean rock and plenty of empty shells. Don't worry too much about plants as they do tend to uproot them.

Tank 3 - Amazon Biotope sounds good and you could have a great mix of Tetras, Dwarf Cichlids, Cories etc.

Tank 4 - Fast flowing set up sounds like fun. If I remember correctly, Mad Duff had a great set up like this a little while ago and it looked fantastic.

Tank 5 - Not too clever on reptiles so can't help much there. You could go with smaller fish such as Ember Tetras, Microrasboras, Endlers etc.

Good luck and look forward to seeing pictures once you've decided!

Thanks for the advice on the Multies, I am fortunate to have one of the best Cichlid shops in the country, Natural World, right on my doorstep. I will speak to them to get them ordered in, Colin at the store may let me purchase a few and take the ones back that don't pair as he is really sound like that!!

Just seen some awesome pics of the "Multies" in African section of the forum, makes me want them even more now! :hyper:

Where is the best place to get the shells from though that they obviously require??

I struggled to get hold of some but was lucky that my lfs gave me some empty golden apple snail shells. It might be worth having a look on e-bay.

Better get some pics up soon-do a journal-It will give inspiration to some people.
If you want some small endlers for tank 5 give me a shout.

I did see your post in buy/swap/sell so will defo consider if I decide against the frog/amphibian. Thanks for the offer!!!

Will get some pics up soon but the rack is currently under construction at a different house so not here to take ics yet.

I'm getting excited now!!!

Yeah i bet. I have 6 tanks and still want more and bigger-just cant do it living in a bungalow. Already taking over the garage!!!

Bungalow in Fleckney, I've got loads of buyers for that, I'm an estate agent in Leicester, so if you ever want to upgrade for more space and more tanks then let me know!!!
