probably not viable but:
how about a section/sticky, listing sellers who sell stock inapropriatly. IE,
two Balas for a 180l tank.
salefin Pleco for same.
claris cats (at all)
long arm prawns

as a balance how about a "ohh go there" scrupulous seller list too?

never gonna happen for the same reason that threads bashing certain large chain pet stores aren't allowed.

if anything dubious is seen in the classifieds then please hit the report button......one of us is usually online to investigate.

Hello mate. as stated above i doubt it will ever happen due to the fact that we would basicalliy calling those people selling the fish bad fish keepers etc. if people are selling them as they have got too big for their tank then they should be well aware that they need a bigger tank at the buyers home. unfortunately we cant control who sells what to who its really about the buyers doing research before taking a fish on and sellers knowing what they have for sale and selling it to a suitable new home.

we have all bought and sold fish over the years and the guy that turns up for your 13 inch oscar tells you he has a 6x2x2 empty for it, but has he? without delivering the fish to the new tank you are just going on the word of people. if people lie just to get a big fish then they are the cruel irresponsible people in the buying link. many people stick big fish in small tanks knowing that its too small but they do it anyway, its heart breaking tbh but there is just no way we or anyone can control it. its the same when a shop asks the new buyer what size tank they have when looking at a red tail cat and they say, ive got a 6x2x2 but will be upgrading to an 8x3x2 within the next year or so. how many people lie just toi get a certain fish? the shop goes on their word and sell them the fish.....

hopefully forums like this can educate people as to what fish are suitable for their tanks. if they already have a tank buster in a 3ft tank then all we can do is advise them to move it on. if they dont have the fish all we can do is advise them not to buy it. what they do is their own choice, some will listen some wont but those that dont listen will have the real issues later on with stunted/ill fish that they cant move on

im know your aware of everything i have said but putting people on a list of poor selling isnt a thing that could be done without fear of any comebacks....

much as i thought.
how about a thread/list for members who find the advice of a specific seller good?
it would, at least, be positive, with no slagging off, just back slapping.

i know of a few sites that have a feedback/comments area for people that have bought items from fellow members and 1 site even had a trusted sellers subforum. the only thing with this kind of thing is that if someone isnt completely happy with their items then another members name could be tarnished. we have all bought items expecting them to be perfect etc and have been let down due to inacurate sizes etc etc. most of the time it can be sorted by pm or on the phone but if someone just sticks a bad comment about a seller instead then future sales may be frowned upon by others...

most people normally stick a comment on the original thread stating that the item recieved was good or whatever...

sorry man, sometimes i forget, not everybody thinks like me.

I would read such a thread,( as i always do) from end to end. i then make a judgment based on the number of comments, for the (any) situation.

in effect, I add my knowledge, to any i can glean from the thread. and make a judgement.

if only one member "likes" an shop. if i go there and get bad service/advice. it does not make him, at fault,. it just means he got better service than me.
but, if several members are pro, and i get bad advice/service. its a fair bet, if i return, I'll get better service/advice. because i was just unlucky first time. (everybody deserves an off day).

if a thread, like this, was allowed to run for some years. it could be an invaluable resource for noobs and oldies, alike.

I understand it wont happen. i just wanted you (all) to know i had actually though about the concept. prior to posting.

yeah i agree it could be of value but trusting people to leave reviews could become a mod nightmare

no, no not reviews, just " I'd return"
no reasons why.

we could even have a sticky. where members post the names an details of shops they would return to. but make no other comment.

oh ok i got the wrong end of the stick there....

so we would end up with a list of shop names that people have had a good experience at, is that right?

if so leaving no comments could be a bit misleading as if the person got a good deal on a filter and added it to the list, members reading the list would have no idea what was good about the shop.... if they then travelled there thinking they would get some good fish and there were nothing to interest them on arrival they would be a bit gutted and annoyed that it was labelled as a good place to go.

i think we must tread carefully when dealing with this type of thing which probably makes it a bit risky tbh.

lol, i was thinking more of just " I would go back".
your right though, you'd need to break it into. Fish and Stock.
Tee Hee, that's why you really need the "i wouldn't go back", split in the same way.
you then compare the two lists. if you have a shop, near you with ticks for both sections. Bargain. if not, you end up travelling more.
I'll admit, there are shops in Leicester, I wouldn't dream of buying stock from. but wouldn't blink at buying gear there.

hey ho, sadly not practical.
but, if we can get past the paranoia (on offence mat) it could be a valuable resource.
