USA,
but they get sooo big and my tanks only 15. i know i posted about those small ones, but i dont have them around me. i was at a crapy lfs today, and one of the little plecos swam, and it so cute, even though theyre kinda ugly, it just made me want 1, i had like a daydream thing of it sitting on some bog wood, which no where around me has, in my tank. i dont know what 2 do, get one the get a bigger tank when it gets bigger, or what. how long does it take them 2 grow anyways?

Some stay small enough to go in a 15 gallon like Bristlenose but most of what you'll see are the Commons who get to 14" or bigger and need a 50 gallon or larger.

Your tank should not make a room smell, perhaps it was not maintained properly. When the lid is lifted it should smell a little pondy and natural but it should not "smell up the room"

it did smell pondy, i didnt think it smelled, my dad did. it was maintained, i think that it was because of it leaking,

i have one in my study (arms length from me now) and as you say - it only smells pondy with the lid off... the 4ft'er is the same.

i think mine had a bacteria infection in it, it got all cloudy and gel like. i had 2 dump it out and start over again, and it was all fine, levels etc. and i had fish for it already 2.

k so we go from ppplecos to smelly rooms now thats a twist  no seriously try looking at some of the L number plecos, i dont know whether this is a breach in the terms and conditions here but planet catfish .com is a good tool to research these fellers

So sorry if this does break the rules but im only to help  eep

Ah, it's alright. People link planet catfish all the time!

I wouldn't put a plec in a 15gallon in all honesty. The poo too much, maybe if there were very few other fish in there. Even then, I'm not convinced.

I know you get small plecs, I have 2 that will be under 5" but even then they are in my 320l.

maybe ask your lfs to order a smaller one in?
id dout if they do that, probly cost like $30 if they did. i do have 1 lfs though that does have all diffrent kinds of them. they probly have otos as well, but they have the WORST return policy, so i dont go there. 2 of them i know dont have any, they have odd cat fish. one does, but theryre the commen ones, and i think my petsmart has like 3 kinds, really expencive ones though.

Ottos are kinda cool little fish, they are cheap (but add up when we must consider that they must be bought in groups as they like to shoal) easy to feed (and feed themselves on your plants if u neglect them and are pretty hardy get some you wont regret it!
