Thanks for reading. Does anyone know if this is the beginning of dropsy or not? Is this just too much eggs and food? This is my new female, I love her to bits and I am so worried about her!!! She wasn't super full of eggs when I got her but I am starting to see a bit of scale poking out, does this indicate dropsy?? Otherwise, she is perky, more friendly now than when I got her (2 1/2 weeks ago) and eats heartily. It would break my heart to lose her... :-(

She went from this:

To this (she has eaten, but that was two days ago!)

Oh please oh please oh please say it's eggs!!!!!

ps. what can I do!?!? :S

Sadly it looks like dropsy sorry.

You could try epson salt baths to try and draw the fluid out.

I don't think it's dropsy, especially since the scales are only doing that around her belly. I'd fast her for a day or two and see if the swelling goes down before I started treating.

ETA, I see you're in the states. Have you ever read of colloidal silver around here? There should be a pin in the FAQ.

edit again...

Here's the link. I'm not sure if I have a copy of my Flare! article in that thread. I'll look around, I hope so because that was a file on my old PC. If anything I can pull up an old Flare! from the IBC site.

Yeah, I have colloidial silver at the animal rescue--it's good for pets too!

So, plan of action? Run out and buy a one gallon and then what kind of a dose of colloidal silver? Or watch and wait stance?

ps- thanks for the quick answers!

I don't know....ugh, I haven't checked the bottle yet (I've been working at my other job.) Hopefully I'll run over to the rescue this week...

Mini looks exactly like that right now... -_-

awww, Elise. That's odd for her to come down with something so quickly, especially knowing her current situation is quite cushy compared to what she came from. Perhaps she injured herself on something in her new tank which lead to internal bruising resulting in dropsy. What have ya done so far?

I know the poor thing! Well, I put her in a one gallon with extra aquarium salt. I didn't feed her for a couple days incase it was just overfeeding, but she hasn't gone down any from my previous post. She isn't stressed and she's still friendly. I still haven't found the time to run over to the rescue :/

I hate to look in on her though because dropsy gives me the heebeejeebees... :S I'm checking on her a couple times a day (my hair stands on end seeing those pokey scales....ew!!! Poor little angel).

I don't know if there anything I can do more for now...

If anything will help her it will be silver. So when you get some just squirt it in without looking.

It's quite sad to see them ill and still friendly, those are usually the fighters though. I had this one female who came down with dropsy over and over....and over. I really do believe it to be partially genetic, she seemed bound and determined to suffer with it whilst nobody else was even the slightest bit ill. I would give her silver and the scales would go down, the swelling would subside then boom, back again a month or two later. All the while she was as happy as a clam :S

I hope she gets well for ya!

Well as long as she was happy! Okay, I'm going to try and run over to grab some today because it breaks my heart to see her like this! Wish me luck (or her luck rather)

Okay, I got it! It's 10ppm. She's in a half gallon (she was in a 1 gal, but she's still a juvie and I needed the 1 gal for my big ole male). I put some in (about 1/2 a teaspoon?) I just put a little splash of it in there (it's in a little container because I couldn't take the whole bottle home.)

I am so hopeful!!! (Wuv, you've been so helpful, thank you!) :D

 How is she doing, any new pics so we can see her progress. Good luck I have everything crossed for her (and you)
