I went to a saltwater reef store today. It was surprisingly really nice. The tanks were quite spacious and they took in unwanted fish too. They had some pretty big koi some people had turned in. Anyway, right as you walk in there is a huge 220 gallon reef aquarium. It was a bit scratched up, I think it belonged to a restaunt maybe. But it comes with the stand and everything. It's $500. Should I get it? I have over $700 in dog walking. I think I can afford it and a few nice fish but.... my parents are gonna have to chip in with the coral and rock. :shifty: I really want it. Sorry I couldn't snap any pictures. I didn't bring my camera. =( I think its a steal but how much would a filter cost? I'm not sure if one comes with it.

OOoh cool. Is it just the glass tank? Or are there lights? or anything else.

If you want corals and a reef then you arnt going to need a filter or anything like that. Your live rock and circulation will be your filteration.

oh cool and yes there is a stand, lights and a canopy

Do you know what types of lights are in it?

Your greatest expenses outside of the actual tank are going to be Live Rock, Protein Skimmer, and Lights.

If the lights are T5 or better, you won't need to buy new ones depending on what corals you want to keep in there!

I say go for it, $500 is pretty cheap for a 220 gallon especially if it comes with lights that are good.

If the lights are worthwhile in it, then it's a good deal. A general rule of thumb is $1/gallon for a used tank, and $1/gallon for a used stand. Sometimes it's a little more like $1.50 or $2/gallon for larger tanks but with scrathes on it I wouldn't pay anymore so that'd be around $450-500 for the tank/stand. So yeah, if worthwhile lights (T5, multiple T8s, or halides) then I'd grab it
