Hi guys, I've just tested a friends water in which he has three odd looking goldfish in. They have been in the water for about 2-3 weeks, Ammonia levels are pretty much zero if not zero but Nitrites are off the scale!!!

I suggested a 20% water change immediately, what else can he do?

Thanks in advance

Jim

Sorry I have posted in Tropical by mistake but I assume the advice will be the same

if the nitrites are really that high then do AT LEAST a 50% water change...then wait like 30-60 minutes, check again...then do another water change...has the tank these gold fish in been cycled?

It hasn't been cycled as he didn't know about cycling! I'll tell him to do a 50% change.

Thanks for the advice

What type of goldifsh are they.
Goldifish need large tanks so how many gallons is the tank.
The first goldifsh alone needs 20 gallons then 10 gallons for every other goldfish added.
Also they need double filteration to the tank size.
