Hey, just wondering if anyone could advise me on an oddball i could keep in my community tank?

it contains;

1 x Ellioti
1 x Ruby Shark
Approx 25 Tetras - Neons, Silvertips, glowlights
3 x Bamboo shrimp

Thanks :)

Others may agree/disagree i don't know, i'm no pro on oddballs. But in a 220L tank my girlfriends step-dad has a Senegal birchir, and it looks the part! Stunning fish. I had an armoured birchir in my 300L and it was simply the most mejestic and awesome fish i've ever kept, and it takes alot for me to admit that with my Jack being my pride and joy!

Failing that, i've always thought reed fish are awesome.

Yer i'd love a reed fish! nowhere seems to have one though :(

Like you i'm no expert but i think a birchir will gobble up all my tetras :p

Hi Matt , unfortunately the majority of oddball`s are by nature unsuitable for the average comunity tank , a birchir would certainly decimate your tank , why instead don`t you consider a few unusual`s instead like some of the extremly attractive L number plec`s , a couple of armoured catfish Hopplo`s ( which are comparitivly easy to sex and breed and don`t get overly large ) or even a small cluster of some of the more decorative corydoras ( 6 or 8 ) all of which are continuously active and I guarantee will be just as much a talking point for you and your visitor`s and they will also enhance the overall attraction and interest of your tank without upsetting or scoffing your other tank mate`s.
Whatever your final decision is make sure you have fully explored all the accompaning implication`s :good:
Good luck and happy learning with your quest :nod:

Your Tetras won't be safe with Reed Fish or Bichirs.

If you are after Reed Fish, Wildwoods have them and I beleive they do mail order.

They also do better in small groups. I have read of lots of cases where people have just one that pines away and eventually dies. My group of 4 are constantly interacting.

I have two reed/rope fish and they do not bother my tetras or the fry (baby fish) I have in my tank. They are very friendly and need to have a friend, so make sure you have at least two in your tank!! So far my rope fish eat bloodworms and I believe they have started eating my placostomous algae pellets. Good luck!!
