Hey again all,

So yesterday we got some neon tetras and some platys to start stocking our new tank and I'm a little confused by the behavior as I've had gold fish in the past and they just pooped anywhere so I dunno if different fish have different habits...

To be honest I wouldn't be bothered but I dunno if this is normal or may cause issues so I figured better to ask. So over the last 24 hours the fish have all been swimming around normally etc however the tetras whenever they want to poop all go to the same corner and there is now a load of poop in the sand in one corner... Is this normal? It's kind of like someone has potty trained them lol?

With regards to issues is there anything that can arise from this because all the poop is just stuck in one spot?

Finally the reason I say it's the tetras is because they are the only ones that go near this corner, I haven't seen anything pooping but the plattys just don't go near this spot for whatever reason.

Cheers :)

It's probably the water flow pushing it all into that one corner?

The water flow goes in the exact opposite direction from that corner, the filter is in the middle of the tank so the water gets sucked towards the middle and it's on the far right side of the tank >.<

You'd be surprised with the direction water chooses to take after it leaves the filter but you know your tank - I can't see it so :p

LOL, I wish the poop in both my tanks would go into one corner. Be easier to clean out.

Maybe that is their security corner and they just aren't comfortable yet and retreat there and the rest is a coincidence.

Lol don't take my response as a dismissal of your reply, it wasn't meant that way! I just wanted to make sure this isn't going to cause an issue lol

That's what baffled me, there is nothing anywhere else in the tank, not one piece anywhere lol

Well that's what I assumed at first because it's closer to the heater but they generally swim all over the tank, I've seen them outside of the corner more than I have in the corner :S

Lol it's alright ;)
I only say as I know tanks have 'dead spots' where certainly in my case poop congregates especially in dips in the sand where the water flow doesn't get to it.
Perhaps they sleep there at night?
