Has anyone else ever used this line of products?

I was having a problem with suspended particles (before I added the Fluval...) so I got some "Nutrafin Clear Particulate" additive and followed the instructions for dosage...

It's supposed to work by clumping all the particles together and should be effective in 1-3 hours or the dosage can be repeated (I didn't).

Anyway, 10 days later all I have now is extremely cloudy water. The additive itself is a very trnslucent light blue colour but as soon as I added it to the water I could see it turn a milky colour.

I'm changing 20% of the water every other day at the moment to reduce some high nitrate levels I'm experiencing, but the tank doesn't seem to be getting any clearer

Any advice would be welcomed please.

I haven't used that particular product, but I have used similar products. The one I use now is Accuclear. I find that does the job quite well. It does exactly what Nutrifin clear does. If you are still having cloudy water there are two things you can look out for. Check and make sure that it's particulates in the first place that's causing the cloudy water. In other words, stirred up sediments from the substrate or other physical debris. If it is then the product should work fine. On the other hand if the problem is a bacterial bloom caused by incomplete cycling or mismanaged fish husbandary, no amount of the product will clear it. In fact it will make the situation worse, by spreading the contaminated solution everywhere.
If the circumstances is one of suspended matter in the water and adding the solution is making thing worse, try and reduce the amount of solution you add into the water. Remember during this time ALL filter systems, including the air system must be turned off to allow the particules to clump up and sink to the bottom of the tank and be sucked up by the filtration when you reboot the system.

It definitley was suspended particles and I had my pumps/filters turned off for 3 hours afterwards.

I've emailed Hagen to ask for advice. I'll post their reply here.

I'm wondering if it's a chemical reaction with nitrate, but I'm sure and products you can add to a fish tank should react with nitrate, with the exception of those desiged to of course!
