I have purchased an ASKOLL PURE XL (194 ltr) tank, fantastic looking tank and really pleased with it, I have had it a few months and all going well. At the moment I have the following fish in it -

* Neon Tetra x 8

* Bronze Cory x 2

* Yo Yo Loach x 2

*Red Gourami male x 2 and female x 2#

* Hakari Danio x 5

* Oto catfish x 5

I am looking at adding a small Bristle nose Plec also.... whilst talking with staff at my local Maidenhead Aquatic centre we got talking about stock lvls and he seemed to think that for the size of my tank i could have 2 x plecs and five Guppy also. Is this too much ?.

I was thinking perhaps 1 x plec and maybe looking at 5 x guppy or a couple of Cheery shrimps (not small !).

Anyway, am new to all this and have done the normal google checks where various comments are made, this looked a good forum to ask the question to be honest, so i will await any response and thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Paul

For Rough stocking levels I use the "1 Inch of Fish per Gallon of water".

You have approx 40 gallons so 40 inches of "Full size" fish. (not juvinile size)

Check out http://aqadvisor.com/

Thanks for taking the time to respond Fishaholic, I am about at my limit going by that rule of thumb......With the space I have I think I may get the Bristlenose Plec and a cave for him and leave it at that. Thanks again ;-)

Hello New Member.

That website that Shaddex (sorry, you know him as "Fishaholic") recommended - take its recommendations with a large pinch of salt - IMO, anyway.

That said, I think you've made the right choice.

PIKE (Love it)......Many thanks for your reply, always good to hear from others who have more experience, obviously my main concern is for the welfare of the fish and their surroundings, it is for this reason and after reading various articles I have decided to introduce the Bristlenose Plec who will help keep any Algae under control between my regular water changes / tank cleaning days.

On another note, Do you have any ideas on what would be the best way to introduce this plec as I will put a cave in for him, but don't want him taking over the other places my laoches and others hide out in..... I have a barrrel that my loaches like to hide in and rest and then pipe work that others like my tetra like to sit in...would post a photo but cant seem to do it on here for some reason..........Or do i just put all three hidding places in together and let them sort it out lol !??!?!?..

Once again thanks for replies, very much appreciated.

You should always have at least one more hiding place than you have hiding fish.

So, if you have three fish that like caves, you should have at least four caves.

That way the least dominant fish always has a choice of two places :)

That makes sense to me, thanks....will look at my tank and see what I can do prior to purchasing the Plec......My local aquatic centre have a breading pair of Plecs and the babies are not yet ready for sale.

Many thanks

Original thread should have said 24ltr (UK) tank, not 194ltrs..........This is 20.68 imperial gallons.

So your tank is 24l?

But it's not. 20.68 imp.galls is about 94l. Looks like Paul has a dyslexic keyboard......

Pushing things, stockwise, I would say.

It is one of those days or weeks lol.......Right it is an ASKOLL PURE XL......94 ltr tank........might be easier with my dyslexic keyboard for you to double check on google (other network providers are available ! lol

If it is a 94l tank, i would say you are pretty much stocked. If not a little over.

I will add the pleco and leave it at that I think, water checks are spot on and all fish appear happy with one of them watching TV with me this evening lol.....I am a little disappointed with aquatic centre for saying i could still add 2 x Bristlenose Plec, 2 x xshrimp and 5 x guppie, when it appears that most agree my tank is either at it's max or close to it already, yes i know they need to sell fish lol........But that's why i wanted to check with others who have the fishes welfare in mind and not sales !!! . . . . . . . ..Anyway many thanks for all the advice.

Kind Regards

Paul
