Now The Rasbora Are At It!

I already put a couple of strips of java moss in there. I'm now just doing mini water changes on it's tub a few times a day, waiting till it's free swimming.

It's really exciting, isn't it?! I felt like a kid at Christmas when the first one hatched!

Kid at christmas covers it perfectly! :D :D :D I've been bouncing around all day waiting to be a 'fish mommy' lol.

I reckon the novelty will wear off soon enough. Although I'll just end up excited again tomorrow if my female apisto is still tending to her clutch. Cause if she's still tending to them tomorrow then the chances are they are fertile. So come sunday (ish) I should be seeing some baby apistos. Not sure if she'll be able to keep the rasbora away though...

It's all fun :D

Edit: I really cba getting the bbs hatching though.

I haven't had any luck hatching brine shrimp. I'm going to try again tomorrow though; I won't be beaten by brine shrimp!!

Mine hatch fine, they're just a right farse.

Salt...water...air pump... light. Eugh. To be fair it's mainly the airpump that does my head in. Cause to keep the tub warm enough I stick it on top of one of the tanks... but the one downstairs where no one sleeps doesn't have a plug free (figures  ). So the pump ends up in the bed room with us which is irritating to say the least. Especially for a single fry lol.

I do have some frozen brine shrimp though... and micro worms. So fingers crossed that'll be fine. The micro worms come in a variety of sizes anyways. So I can just pick some of the smallest ones. I might put another couple of pieces of java moss in tomorrow aswell.

My brine shrimp have hatched now, turns out that my water was not quite alkaline enough so a bit of bicarb and hey presto - bbs! I put my hatching container in a heated water bath (cheap plastic tank with an aquarium heater in it) so it's in the kitchen bothering nobody.
How's your little one getting on? I've had another few hatch over recent days!

It was doing fine on Friday but I had to visit family this weekend so hopefully it's still fine but I wont know till I get home tonight. Fingers crossed. Good luck with yours :)

I had to leave mine for a weekend when they were 10 days old and they were fine so I hope yours is too. Let us know!

Well I just got home and the little guy is a proper little free swimming fry now :D And it's also large enough to eat microworms which is great. I wasn't sure when I put them in, but after a few seconds it recognised them as food and had a go. I now have a tiny spec of a fry which has a tummy about as large as it's head full of white microworms :good:

Very happy. Just hope it'll survive through the next week and that I don't fuss over it too much/not feed it enough/feed it too much etc. It might even be large enough for me to take a photo now so I'll try to get a pic later.

Well it's exactly 7 days since the eggs were laid and here is the first picture of my fry :D

Glad s/he made it while you were away. The sponge filter in the background really shows the scale of the little thing! Keep us posted!

pH is 7.6
Temp 26C

Ammonia + Nitrites 0 obv :D

Nitrates... unsure as I haven't tested them this week but they're normally around 20ppm (ish) and I've tested a few times in the past month.

I feed on a good mixture of cichlid pellets(nutrafin), tropical granules (by JMC), frozen bloodworm and microworms (surprisingly even the adult harlequins go a bit crazy for microworms).

It's pretty cool at the moment cause I can tell when the fry needs feeling cause I can see it's tummy is empty. And also really really odd to see it swallow the worm and the worm to go into it's tummy. Partially digested food is a pinky colour but the microworms are white so there is a very clear definition lol.

They're spawning again, hopefully I'll have more success catching fetilised eggs this time. Fingers crossed. It's incredibly boring waiting/watching though cause the males are still a bit hopeless at wrapping her properly, and she'll only release eggs when they wrap so...

2 eggs collected, both fertile and as of this morning have grown tails. :D Just gotta wait a few days till they're free swimming then they can go in with the older one.
