I have a 29g in service about a year. I used to have 3 blue gouramis. All were female. #1 was the bully with #2 as the sidekick; they were killing #3. I took #1 out, and #2 took over as the bully. #3 died. So I still have #2, who proved herself more than capable. I've added a small (5) school of tiger barbs and she won't stand up to them at feeding. She is not at all aggressive and I am afraid she'll end up starving. What can I add to my tank to balance out the power? It's just her and one green cory cat besides the tiger barbs. Taking her out and starting a new tank is not a good option, and she's really my favorite fish, so I don't want to give her away.

Swap out the Tiger Barbs for some slower moving, peaceful fish.
Thank you creeker. I'm really not sure what to do with them. I don't know anyone else who keeps fish to give them to. Any suggestions?

Assuming I can find something to do with the tiger barbs, what other fish would you recommend that have the same general requirements as the gourami and are slow moving and peaceful like you describe? Thank you again!

You could ask if the shop you bought them from might take them back. As for tankmates for a peaceful Blue Gourami, Platies, Swordtails, and Mollies come to mind. Some of the mid-sized Tetras might be good, too, like Bleeding Hearts or Rosy Tetra.

Seriously, thank you again. I'll give them a call. I was so worried about my fish that I didn't even say hello. I've spent hours reading the forums and have learned so much!!
