I posted last night that one of my Female Bettas in now in the hospital tank after losing most of her tail.

Well last night i was looking at her and i thought without her tail her ventrical (she has had one nipped off) looks very long and her anal fin looks pointy. So i thought i would get my little mirror out and got a response and sure enough off she goes flaring away - beard showing - but it wasnt a full beard like Jazz's was it looked more like an extension of her gills.

So now i am confused - i took a short video - right at the beginning she is flaring - her beard is red (apologies if you can hear my OH shouting at me)

So my question is Male or Dominant/Agressive Female?

Thanks sausagewinkle i hope she is female so i can return her to the main tank :) plus i couldnt think of a new name - currently shes Marilyn because shes blonde and had red lipstick.

On a side note what colour would she be classed as?

Pale body and red fins??
^ Yup thats her so that makes 1 cambodian, 1 opaque with blue.

Are females that are a blue green colour with red on the tail classed as green?

These are the best pics i have atm one is hard to photograph as she prefers being out at night

No it was i think i scared her with my camera! Shes had those bars for months - my other lil blue/green girl in on permanent stress stripes unless these 2 come together over an algae wafer - then its full colour and squaring up to each other.

ha lol mine dont flare when i feed peas they just go flitzy lol dashing twards any green moving object lol poor little tiger barb lol

Definitely looks like a female to me, looks like she has eggs as well, very plump :good:

Do you only have 2 females in one tank? That could be why they are so aggresive, it's a bad idea to keep female bettas in groups less than 4
