Hi All,

I purchased a trio of Nothobranchius Rachovii, two females and one male from a vendor at Hailing Island Festival of fish keeping this year and I have managed to collect several successful spawns from them. Unfortunately the male was acting strange last night and has passed away this morning. :rip:

This leaves me with a dilemma, I’m not sure of their age but they appear in perfect condition and approx 1” in length. So my dilemma is this:

Do I gracefully retire my two females into my community tank and say thank you?

Try to find someone who has a spare male to make the trio up again?

Find someone who will gladly take the females from me and start their own breeding team?

If there is anyone on the forum that can help me out with any of the above I’d be grateful. I want to add that I don’t want to post the females, so anyone willing to help me must be within a reasonable distance.(I’m in Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12)

Regards

I have just had the same happen to me with my Guntheris....(like overnight), one female jumped out...(water level about 8" from the top) one female and one male died misteriously, thus leaving me with one male... He's going into my community tank.

All your other options seems viable (if you have the contacts)

Hi GT,
Go to the BKA Newsgroup on Yahoo. You'll have to join the group first.
Post your plea on there and I'm sure you'll get a response. The BKA produced an exhibition stand at Hayling Island so some of the boys will know what you mean.

Thanks Guys,

I'll have a looksee on the News Group.
I rekon I've got a fair few eggs now so it wasn't all in vain. Just gotta wait 7-8 months before I can see if it was worth it :)

I'm glad you managed to get some eggs from you fish before their untimely demise.
Rachovi are pretty easy to maintain and induce to spawn the problem lies in the rearing of the fry.
The fry are very small and will need microscopic first foods such as infusoria/Paramoecium if you are to have any chance of success. So be aware of this and arm yourself with such foods long before the designated hatch date.

No M8 theyr'e too large tbh. Infusoria or Paramoecium are needed before going on to Walter/Banana/Micro worms and BBS.
If you reside in the UK. I regularly supply Paramoecium starter cultures (see uk classified section under livestock)
