Im annoyed with the lack of general care for some of these Fish Iā€™m seeing from some Members/Guests on this Forum.

Fish are like any other animal in our Care-Here is why
take Dogs for instance
if you fed a dog every single day the same food it would eventually turn it down or not be as happy and energetic as they should be

if you didnā€™t walk it every Day and it didnā€™t have space to run around it would become obese and/or worse get ill

If you left it in a room full of ammonia and other nastys and toxic smoke or left it in a car that was too hot it would eventually suffocate and die

If you fed it the wrong things or out of date food it would get Sick and possibly die

If you didnā€™t keep itā€™s environment clean it would get viruses diseases and injure itself

Also like a dog fish are quite intelligent , they are just intelligent in different ways that are only needed for them to Survive

they do eventually get used to you being there but only when they realise YOU are one of the MAIN reasons they survive and do well

All these are similar rules(donā€™t try and walk your fish or keep your dog in a pond/tank)

Rant over.

Also Pass over these fish by commenting a fishšŸ šŸŸ

I think the same, I always ask people if they would keep their puppies in a little refrigerator or a small room with hardly enough food to live. I canā€™t imagine keeping my pupper in a little space for so long. Fish are just as incredible and full of personality! They want to laze around and bite your fingers just like a little kitten. Fishyyy šŸ  šŸŸ

Like I said in another thread...we are gods.
Some of us are benevolent, most, perhaps, are not.
Those who abuse through ignorance don't suddenly acquire ignorance, just before engaging in fishkeeping.
Those who abuse through laziness, or malicious intent, will do so to others.

Rather than use other animals as examples, I prefer to ask people to think like the fish...be the fish themselves.

YOU can survive in a six-foot cube, with poor ventilation and no heating, with only water and gruel...forever. But you won't thrive.
I'll stick four angry, drunken bruisers in there with you...having fun?
Good...now can you look after my scorpions for me...they're soooooooooo cute!

Let's not empty the toilet bucket...I'll come visit in a month or so...just to see how you're getting on...if I remember.

Perhaps I'll toss in a burning tyre...I might open the window...I might not...mebbe tomorrow, if I can be bothered.

I gotta say that I feel that you are wrong - the members that come here come to learn, come for help, or come to help others. So your focus just seems misplaced to me.

Thatā€™s why it says some @AbbeysDad

Itā€™s aimed mainly at the ones that arenā€™t learning quick enough or not researching properly and making the same mistakes time after time

Itā€™s not just one member itā€™s quite a few that keep popping up and youā€™ll see through threads a backtrack of similar mistakes plus some complete newbies with absolutely no Knowledge of how to care for these animals and havenā€™t researched anything properly before setting up not even the basics to keeping them alive

To be fair fishkeeping to the general public is "get some fish and stick 'em in water, there fish ain't they? Not like they need a lot".

It's only then when things go wrong that people will mostly either give up "fish just don't live very long do they" or come here for help.

I always try and be sympathetic to the ones that come and look for help. Generally they have been acting on the bad advice of the "professionals" and come here to try and learn better.

It is frustrating with the ones that only listen to what they want to and ignore the rest if its inconvient. They will always be there though unfortunately.

Yes but. I don't think you can submerge a dog in water all it's life. (wait a minute! You could it just wouldn't live a very long life.) And dogs aren't supposed to live under water (I take it from experience).

I have a cat, Norah - in the photo, she has some allergiesā€¦.she gets fed the same food everyday, day in and day outā€¦this does keep her happy, itā€™s good for her! She doesnā€™t break out in horrible, bloody, scabby sores, she doesnā€™t need to be on steroidsā€¦
I think making huge, sweeping generalisations isnā€™t very helpful. Iā€™ve made some huge mistakes, how can you research something you donā€™t know exists..? Iā€™d managed to kill 2 beautiful Bettas following advice from an independent, locally respected fish shop before finding this site and discovering the science of cyclingā€¦ I knew just about everything else about the care needs of a Bettaā€¦I could research that.

First I'd be willing to bet that there isn't one member on this site that hasn't made one or more mistakes and lost a fish or two. So as the saying goes, 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone'.

Second, and I mean no offense, but you joined this forum less than a month ago and presume to make some harsh judgements. Perhaps I missed some other newer members that are making mistakes and not learning from them, but then I'm not keeping a list and checking it twice like that fishkeeper up north.

I worry more about the wannabe guru posers selling bad advice to newer hobbyists and then turning into trolls when challenged. :)

I also have 2 cats, both of which eat the same exact thing 2x a day. they have been eating this food all their lives, and they are happy and healthy. (One of them a little too happy, as he's 16lb  )

Saying this is almost worse than just mentioning the names of those members. If you feel like those members are doing a poor job, maybe PM them and nicely explain what you think they are doing. wrong.

New members come to this forum to learn how to take better care of their fish. However, they are usually greeted with harsh words about things they didn't even know existed.
