Not sure what to do now?

Can someone confirm if I am infact correct for us please???????? It worked for me on my baby tank but I started with filter media from main tank. Would this work for Steve ???
Yes, adding filter media (or gravel) from an established tank will do a sort of "instant cycle". Be sure to add fish when you add the media, or shortly thereafter, otherwise the bacteria in the media will die off. Either that, or add some fish food so that the bacteria in the media have something to "feed" on.

Good news! Got back from my business trip and my readings are now as follows.
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20

Will check it again over the next 2 days, but looks like I will be purchasing some fish on Monday!
Any thoughts as to how many I should go for? I dont want to mess the readings up again.

I never purchased more than six, my lfs would let me if I wanted to! However I have chosen small fish, i.e. guppies, platies, mollies etc

A lot of people on TFF say that you should not get more than 3 fish at one time during cycling and to be honest if I was getting any fish that were bigger than my stock, ie gourami, anglefish, whatever I don't think I would go above 3, but small fish like neon's you should be ok with 6 (Never More that 6 though)

Just be sensible, don't rush it, if you only get 3/4 fish in one go it's actually nice because you can get to know them individually before your next batch arrive, say one week later (assuming that your parameters have been ok all week).

Anyway, good luck with new fish and remember if you like one in particular make the lfs guy get it for you, don't be bullied into the first one in the tank he catches, if its not the one you want be firm. :D
