Right, ive got a 100L tank currently set up just for my cory's but im really not happy with the look and setup of the tank so want to change it. I want to try to breed my cory's so i want the best possible setup for the highest chance of them spawning.

Heres the tank at the moment and currently contains 13 Cory soldalis

Basically i dont like the gravel or ornaments in the tank and the way the plants are layed out the corys hide behind them most of the time so i was thinking of the following

  • fine sand substrate, either black or white
  • remove all ornaments
  • a row of plants in the center of the tank
????

what are your ideas or suggestions, the new tank layout will be created over the weekend so theres a few days to get some ideas togehter

lastly, how many cory's do you think is the limit for this tank ???? it is highly maintained and well looked after, id like to get some other species in there as well if possible

hi st24rsap

yeah i agree with you the gravel and orniments dont look right

id say black sand substrate with a few amozon sword plants may be a few big ish rocks as orniments and a few little caves of some sort faceing you so you can still see them in there .

as for more corys id say uv room for a few more dont know how many as im no good at stocking limites some one else will be able to help you on that side of things :good:

i definately like the idea of black substrate and some white rocks, maybe change the background on the tank as well

both the ornaments in the tank have hideing places for them but to be honest they never go in there

hi st24rsap
what ever you decide put some pics on for us when uv change it
blacksubstrate and white rocks sounds good :good:

I will do drewery, lots of pics will be posted :D

Elaine2 i plan on having several plants in the tank, the corys do like hideing in them

As drewry suggested, Corys like very much to shelter under a plant like Amazon sword.

I don't think in ltrs. I am guessing that the tank is over 25 usg? You could keep 10-12 medium sized Corys, easily, with good maintenance and filtration, imo.

yep its just over 25 USG, ive already got 13 Cory soldalis in there so am probably at the limits of the tank then :-(

I must have gotten enough sleep this weekend. I am usually way off when I try to do ltrs in my head,

What did you want to add? Corys are a hardy fish for the most part, very forgiving, not a very dirty fish and they keep a pretty clean tank from waste food. They also like frequent cool water changes. So with good filtration, water surface movement and small frequent water changes I get away with some heavily stocked tanks. The Corys don't seem to mind a crowd as long as the water is good. But maintenance must be never overlooked. If the tank is mature you could add something.

well you got it pretty close :good:

Not sure what i want to add, we dont have many lfs around here that have corys and if they do they are always the common ones, id like something a bit special :) .

The tank is a Juwel 100L with internal Juwel filter, 2 air stones running 24hrs a day and it is cleaned twice a week (gravel vacumed and 25% water changes) and is maintained to a high standard. They are fed mostly on frozen blood worm at the moment

well heres the latest pics of the cory tank, what do you think ????

Looking good. I'd be tempted to put some vegetation up closer to the front on one side. It's all a matter of personal taste but I found that I saw more of my fish when I tried it. They seem to like hiding amongst the plants so when the front of the tank was left open they stayed at the back. When I brought the plants forward to the front glass, just on the one side, they came to the front. I suppose the corys don't know front from back, they just didn't want a big, open space to sit it. You could try some fine, low lying plants for this.

Just a matter of playing around really and seeing what they like. Good luck.

Hi st24rsap :)

What a big difference! I like your new set-up a lot.

Elaine2, i didnt want to over do it with the plants to begin with but may add some more amazon swords around the center feature, the corys love the new layout and are no longer hid all the time. They could hide at the back behind the plants if they wanted but they are constantly out at the front of the tank swimming about and digging in the sand (much much better than gravel i think for corys)

cheers drewry, im much happier with it at the moment :)
