yesterday rite after i put my new fiah in my 10gallon tank it started to leak, now i thought i jus spilled water but i cleaned it up . 10 min later more water came out. i put ducttape on it to hol it for a while but more water came out. ive had the tank for about 2 years. now what im wondering is that i have some silicon i want to mput in the tank to stop it from leaking anymore.(i dont want to buy a new tank). the silicon is called RVT silicon, adhesive sealing, 100% silicon rubber. is that safe to use in my tank?

Ohhh Infant340, that's the worst!!!!

I wouldn't use a product unless it said on the package that it was for use in aquariums. I'd be afraid to take a chance with it.

Are your fish out of the tank and safe now?

Are you really sure you don't want another tank? This is the best excuse you will ever have. LOL And you can fix your old one, too. :D

I repair tanks with 100% silicone sealant with no ill effects on any of my fish. I'd say go for it. In the meantime a large bucket, such as used by restaurants for food, would be a suitable temporary tank.

Silicon is what tanks are put together with in the first place so theres no problem using it to do repairs. Just make sure you have one that dries clear not white or some other colour.

A lot of Silicone sealants have a fungicide built into them which is toxic in aquaria. Do not use any sealant which does not say that it is safe for aquarium use.
