I had to go out last night and stay at my sisters. My Auntie stayed at mine. I told her not to spray hairspray or whatever as she was staying in my room. Guess what she did?! Sprayed hairspray. Got in before and my beloved sword tail Smokey Jo was dead!:'(

Exactly that! She lives in Blackpool which is in England somewhere about 35 miles from where i live. I rang her up and she went 'Oh i forgot, i'm sorry' -.-

Family will do that sort of thing all the time, frustrating and totally annoying but short of posting huge notes around the house reminding them not to do certian things you can almost gaurentee that they will. Sorry that you lost your fish. Some of those hair sprays etc can leave a film on the surface of the tank so I would do some really shallow surface siphoning to try and remove any film if you see it. A neighbor of mine kept getting guppies off me, and kept complaining about them dying. I quizzed them plenty of times on what they where doing and then finally one day when I was in their house I saw the culprit. They had one of those air fresheners that lets off a burst of smelly chemical at set intervals up on top of a partial wall between the kitchen and the lounge room where the tank was kept. I told them it was the most likely the air freshener thing that was killing the fish but, they pretty much said "oh well, only guppies plenty more I can get" . Thankfully that person has now moved and I stopped giving them guppies after they showed they didn't care about their pets.
