Well it appears my 16 yr run of ich free fishkeeping is over!
I have my first ever outbreak of ich!

Don't think it is a particularly bad infestation but as I have never encountered it before I'm a little unsure of the severity.

Around half of the tanks inhabitants have no more than 10 spots each and it has not worsened over the last 3 days.
I've gone down the medication route and cranked up the temp, I've chosen to use waterlife protozin. I wasn't confident enough to use salt as I have salt sensitive species.

Any pointers would be gratefully recieved
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 15
Ph 7.3
New guppy and plant added last week, not quarantined.
I'm guessing this may be the cause.
Thanks
Alison

as i have said before somewhere It has been found that Ich does not infect new fish at 29.4°C/85°F (Johnson, 1976), stops reproducing at 30°C/86°F (Dr. Nick St. Erne, DVM, pers. comm.), and dies at 32°C/89.5°F (Meyer, 1984)
i recently cured an outbreak if ich by simply increasing the tank temp to 32 degrees c and holding it there for 14 days after you see the last spot fall off the last fish.
keep a close eye on your fish for rapid breathing as warmer water contains less oxygen so using an air stone to create more air in the water is a must.
if the ich cant attach itself to another fish, can't reproduce,it stands no chance of survival.therefore the 32 degree heat will kill the ones free swimming it will also stop any from hatching as they fall off the fish into the substrate hence breaking the life cycle :)
simple but effective and better for the fish due to no chemicals being added :)

Hi Winmore
I have the temp at 30 degrees and have increased aeration.
