my filters gone really noisey over the last week or so , now i'm pretty sure it isnt air stuck in the filter as i've shaken it and tilted it with it not making any difference. any idea on what it might be? the intake is near the bottom of the tank so not any getting in through there. none of the seals visably look nakered. the filter is about 2months old at the most.

It could be a broken impellor shaft (the white ceramic shaft in the middle of the impellor) or just a dodgy filter motor. If the impellor shaft is ok then take it back to the shop and get it replaced under warranty.
Impellor shafts aren't normally covered under warranty.

Thanks for that i'll have a look at the shaft now, the output ont he filter is dire.. i put the output into an empty unused bin (about 30litre) and it took around 20minutes to fill that, the filter is supposed to do something around 700 , i brought an internal fluval filter for now to help with filteration .

Then something is clogged ! (is the impellor ok ?)

could you tell me exactly what filter you have please. apart from that, check the impeller, as stated. also check the pipes and fittings for any blockages. but simply, stripping and cleaning the impeller and housing can make a big difference.

I've used (abused!) a 2224 for several years. Sometimes the internal passages where the water flows will get clogged. If the shaft & impeller are good, flush the passages out with a hose.

tried the above and it still sleems sluggishly slow and still rather noisey, managed to break one of the securing clips somehow:( so scapped the filter now and got a fluval 305 which seems decent , pretty much silent justa little tricky to get going. too the media fromt he eheiem one into the new one so hopefully shouldnt have any issues with ammonia etc. Don't have the patience to wait around for warranty repair as it's kinda the more important part of the tank .

Thanks for the tips guys, shame it didnt work :(

Have a good new year all :)

if the filter is still under warranty then take it back and get it repaired. then you can use it as a spare :)
