Hi guys,

Not sure if there is any truth behind it but my LFS said today that there will be no more imports of L128's as a preservation order has been placed on the river that they are from.

Does anyone else know of this?. Just a heads up Maidenhead aquatics near st Alabans have a few left but @£46 they are not cheap!.

Regards

Matt

Yeah, some Plecos have been banned from being exported from their natural habitat (including L128 I think) and they are pretty hard to breed. So I would expect high prices :X

A shame that they are struggling in the wild as a truly stunning fish. I sold one last year for about £15 cos it took ages to sell. It was about 5 inches as well!!

There is one in Maidenhead @ Wigan going for £40

James.

in a few weeks I won;t have any more freshwater tanks. I had planned on a couple of decent plecs as well but its all change at themoment

Unless they have been added to the ban list within the last month or so they are not on it.

The imports of these fish (if have been put on the ban list) wont stop them been imported. They will and will always be imported due to supply and demand, they will be illegally caught and shipped to neighbouring countries where they will be freely allowed to export to anywhere that allows it.

I'm almost positive they aren't currently on any ban list though, i have no doubt that they will be in time but currently i dont think they are.

that may the case, but you or anyone else won't see them.

May i ask?, why is that?

Because illegally exported fish nearly always go to those countries who are willing to pay the highest prices, which invariably means places like Asia rather than the UK.

Predominantly, probably most yes... however to say we will never see 'any' will and is completely wrong, they will always be in the trade in any place that is willing to buy.. this country has quite a good pleco following and are willing to pay the high prices these potentially could fetch.

There are many banned imports that arrive in the country, at the moment it seems 46 and the newly added 134 which seem to be the most popular but to say you would never see 128's becasue asian county would snap them up would be like saying the same about the species ive mentioned above and most pleco keepers would know this is far from the case at the moment.
