No more fish from Petco/Smart for me. High % die.

It really depends on who is working in the fish department. For 3 years my petsmart was really good, pretty healthy fish, clean tanks and the guy, another teen like me was super knowledgeable. He has since stopped working there and the tanks are filthy, fish are dying and the other day when I went there they had treated all of their tanks with copper to kill off the pest snails, thinking the nerites and mystery would be fine! So all of their snails died. Tanks were infected with ich, half of their guppies had dropsy as well as a dozen of the bettas. The cichlids had internal parasites and were super skinny and a plethora of other problems. The manager was talking to me and was saying how much she loves keeping fish and that she has so much experience but all of her info was whack.
I do agree with this completely. Once in a Petco I met a guy from the dog training department doing water changes. He was definitely not qualified. :dunno:

WALMART!..worst of all. At least I can say the one nearest my home got rid of their fish tanks. They do sell the Wardleys shrimp sinking pelllets cheap..the wife usually need to get to Walmart before the can runs out. Next time, two cans,
But.the fish? agh. Poor creatures..not a drop of care for them from Walmart.

I’m so thankful my local Walmart put a stop to that. They got rid of all their fish, but still kept the basics. (Conditioner, medication, decor, food, etc.) I tend to buy fish food from Walmart as well, just because it’s cheap.

One more who needs to step it up..Pet Club. Good for supplies- I give them that, very bad for fish. Plus, they don't even sell fish for less then LFS does. With lower quality fish.
I have a feeling Pet Club is operating on a thin line. Not as many in the country as Petco/Smarts.
