Since I'm currently home alone (my wife is visiting my parents to help out as they are both not feeling well), my neighbour (last night) offered her (and her son's) services to help me in the garage, cleaning tanks and changing water.....

Geez!!... not being ungrateful, but!!... every floating leaf of a plant.... (OH!!! is this a dead fish) and every cleaned tank... (What can we move into this one)??... opening the tap to refill the water..... (Full Blast)..... Scraping off algae from the glass with a putty knife.... the silicon also gets scraped off.... Syphoning the gravel.... my fish gets sucked in......Washing the gravel...20% of the gravel gets flushed on the lawn....even wanted to use windolene to thouroughly clean the glass.....

In the meantime, I have to be discrete & eventually told them, thanks, but I've only got those five tanks to be cleaned tonight.....

Today whilst they were at work and school respectively,... I did 14 tanks in half the time that it took (with their help) to do the 5 tanks last night.....

Thanks, but no help Please......

I'd like to know how you find the time to maintain all them tank :hyper:

Andy

Ye know Andy... people often say to me that they will not keep fish, "cause it's too much work"..... I beg to differ.... there is not really that much maintenance and the like....(there was a stage in my life.... where it was a bit more work, but then I had almost 300 tanks).....But it was still maintainable.... putting them on cycles and carefull bookkeeping.... The biggest part of it was putting out and setting up breeding pairs, daily feeding (esp. the live brine shrimp - used to hate that part) and so on..... but overall... not "hard" work....

You shouldn't have given them a free rein in the first place Lud  That'll teach ya.
I take it that your wife joins in your cleaning regime....or are you just doing what I do, and cant wait to get her out of the way, because she always moans about the mess. I dont like folks encroaching on what is essentially "My Hobby". If my wife even expresses some kind of aquatic concern, I'm always sceptical of the reasons for her comments.

Your getting old Lud

P.S. You cleaning tanks for Killifish then

I know how you feel, I prefer to maintain my tanks myself, if the kids help it takes 3 times longer and I get wetter!!! if my husband decides to help he ends up filling the tank back up so fast all the substrate is stirred up and the tank looks worse than when I started. I now have a timetable stuck to the kitchen cupboard with the days I am doing which tanks, so everone knows to keep out of my way lol

Hehe, I know how you feel... I'm setting up some tanks in the school science classrooms. Yesterday I was water changing the betta tank (the only one with a fish in it) and somebody came up behind me and started asking why I was tipping all the water out. At least three gallons, all over me, the floor, the desk...

No BigC... Only time she really gets involved is when there are emergencies, like when it suddenly rains very hard, my roof gutter overflows into the ponds and then the ponds overflows onto the lawn, and I have guppies/mollies platies swimming all over my back yard... at 2am in the morning with pajamas a torch and a net........I sometimes even help her then.....

The Killis...... Yes Tyrone did reply and wants to send them overnight Courier... I must just establish if my PO accepts overnight deliveries.... He has some eggs and looks like a couple of fry that he wants to send... I will pm you the list.....

Well I call that a result.....Now you have no excuse whatsoever.... only problem that I can see now is that these fise are addictive and pretty soon you'll be looking toward other varieties....You'll see!

Glad Tyrone was able to help me (and you) out. So you see the Killifish fraternity knows no borders.
Good luck with them

It went so beautiful this afternoon.... My sole supervisor was on duty, and I changed water in about 14 tanks....(under supervision of Megan).....

She's the only one I will allow in the "fishroom" while I'm "working".....

haha i have 4 kids and i always do tank maintenance when they are not around, for that exact reason.

Next time give them a bucket of gravel and tell to keep raising it until it's absolutely crystal clear. That should keep them out of your hair for awhile.
