Hope someone out there can be of some help.Fishless cycling
I am in week 4 of cycling tank and everything was going along very well. Nitrite was 5, highest it goes. Nitrates were starting to creep up and ammonia had been zero for at least a week. I had added some lettuce as a nitrogen source about 8 days ago but had forgotten to keep adding some source of ammonia for the bacteria. In the middle of all this, my apartment had to be vacated for 24 hours due to tub resurfacing-lots of fumes. When I got home and checked, nitrites had fallen to only slight amount and nitrates barely perceptible(yesterday) I realized I had forgotten to add ammonia, so added some fish food yesterday. Today nitrites, ammonia and nitrates all 0. pH -8
Question: how long will it takes for the cycle to begin again? Is it a lack of ammonia or something to with the fumes in the air? WIll I have to wait another 4 weeks? Thanks for your help
