Nitrite test kit

Ive just finished a fishless cycle... (happy dance!)
but my question is, while the nitrites have gone way down, how down is 0? my test kit says to disregard any colouration after 3 minutes. So, my test water is clear for 10-15 minutes, but does develop a pinkish flush after that. So I would assume that means 0. BUT, my old tank, when i test that for nitrites, the water just stays clear forever. So what do you think is going on here?
Also, how long should I keep going before I add fish?

Well, if the test kit says to disregard any colour changes after 3 minutes, than it means you have no nitrites. Congrats

When you are ready to add fish, just do a BIG water change the day you are adding the fish. Nitrates should be less than 40 ppm, ideally.
