Hi...so my tank has been cycling for over a month now, and the ammonia has gone down to zero but my Nitrite has stayed at like 5 for around 10 days! I have some zebra danios in there but have recently moved some guppies i got cuz i realized the nitrite is really hard on them. Thats the only thing i can think i've done that might upset the balance. As per a lot of diff posts I tried doing frequent 20% water changes. I read somewhere that that prolongs the cycle so i tried leaving it for a few days. Readings were still high, and I couldnt leave my fish in water like that so i HAD to do another 20% water change. I have also been adding a bit of aqua salt to make the nitrite easier on the fish. Is there any way i can speed this up? or is there a possible reason that anyone's heard of that makes the nitrite take so long to go down? Anything at all! i feel so bad for my fishies, im a bad fish mommy, but i'm soooooo learning from all these mistakes

I've just been doing 20-30% water changes everyday and letting my water age for hours or even overnight to remove chemicals. I've put my filter on high(they need lots of O2) and have taken my carbon filter out for a product i bought(Cycle) to add beneficial bacteria. Another way to get beneficial bacteria is getting cultured gravel from another persons tank. I've also heard to add aquarium salt as some protection, but some fish are sensitive to salt like: neons, cories and most bottom feeders, snails and more. I've also heard that overfeeding and stocking your fish up too high excelerates the nitrite and ammonia.
I haven't had any fish die yet and i found out about 5days ago, so i hope im doing something right. Good luck!
