can anyone advise what to do i cant reduce my nitrate levels in my tank have done a 25% water change used stress coat in new water but levels have not moved should i continue to do more water changes ammonia levels and nitrite levels perfect . both my angels have now died would this be a cause of it nitrate level to high is their any thing i can buy besides nitrozorb to reduce these levels many thanks

how high are they?

I'm currently battling this myself as a result of the fishless cycle even after a 65% water change my nitrates are still 80ppm

about 70 ppm i have two tanks and both are the same readings even added nitrozorb to one but levels still reading high on one tank i changed about 80% of its water over two days and still reading high the only advice from my local shop is to do water changes which i have but does not change the readings have you found a cure or does anyone know what else i can do thanks the fish cant handle this much longer they are getting stressed out now

Had similar problem, I put Nitrazorb pouch in filter and did thorough gravel vac and removed any dead or unhealthy looking plants, after a couple of water changes things started getting back to normal. No promises but it did the trick for me.

When did you last vac your gravel? Friend had this problem, turned out she'd never cleaned the over 3 inches of gravel ... took a lot of cleaning over several days to get the levels to start coming down.

What are the nitrate readings of your tap water. Somtimes the tap water has high nitrate content and all water changes do is keep the nitrates high. Could be something worth checking before you try anything else. If they are high out of the tap then you will either have to use that level as your bench mark ie. zero and go from there or you can try to find something the will treat your tap water. HTH :)

i had the same problem but found a wounder cure. its called AmQuel plus. it removes nitrate nirite ammonia chloramines and chlorine its only £2.80 for a 29ml bottle one tea spoon will treet 10 gallons so thiss size will do 60g and its only been on the market for 2-3 weeks oh and it 100 0/0 safe on all things.

Where did you hear that? Amquel claims to remove ammonia, chloramine, "toxic pheromones" (whatever those are), and chlorine. They make no claims regarding nitrite or nitrate. If it was that simple we wouldn't have to stress out over cycling tanks so much.

A quick help for your nitrate problem would be to add some fast growing plants, get floating plants if your light levels are not too great, they will suck nitrate out pretty quickly. If you have nitrate in the tapwater you may want to consider getting a purification system.

i know it for a fact as i have a bottle in frount of me . it stats removes nitrate nitrite ammonia chloramines and chlorine. and is made by kordon if you dont belive me check out there web site. i know thiss stuff works as my fish would not be here to day. i had a nitrite reading the highest it could be on the test i added one tea spoon to my old tank ( 10 g ) and with in 1&1/2 hours it was almost 0

Ohhh wait, i see on the website the product you must be referring to "Amquel +" which isn't the same as normal Amquel. I've never even seen that in a store, where did you get it?

i got it from my local store. the shop keeper told me it had only been out a few weeks. it says its made in the usa so i would have thought it was easy to get hold of as the stoor i go to is in a little village so id have thought you could get it no problam.

Ah well it only being out a short time explains why i'd never heard of it. Sorry for contradicting you! :alien:
