Nitrate in tap water

WE have managed to get the ammonia and Nitrite levels to zero but are still struggling with a score of 10 in our nitrates.

Out of curiosity we tested our tap water and the reading was between 5 and 10 - is there anything we can do or do we just live with it - and is it okay for the fish?

This is a perfectly normal reading for nitrates. I'm lucky if I get mine below 25.
Many people would be happy to have nitrates as low as yours.

Just try to keep them under 40 and you will be fine. But having nitrate in your tap water doesn't sound all that good. I am going to have to test mine now

My tap water contains 25 ppm nitrates, but I have lots of live plants to make use of them.

I live in Stockton on Tees (Up north!) in UK. I don't have well water - I just turn on this tappy thing over the sinky thing and this watery stuff comes out.

Looks like I opened a can or worms here! Sorry to have upset so many peeps!!!

Just remember MY tap water nitrates are only between 5 and 10 But who is that wth nil? I'm dead jealous!! lol
