Some time back my male swordtail had whitespot and during this time he became a target for other fish and had his fins badly nipped. Is he like this for life now or is there something I can add to the water to help them recover?

I've always assumed fish can regrow some fin material, even if slowly, but it'd be interesting to hear from members who can vouch for it really happening to their fish or from members who know this is something to expect.

One of my platies I recently purchased I noticed was missing part of her fin and when I noticed I researched it and I think with good nutrition it can be repaired. I have been keeping an eye on her and it seems to be true. It was a good chunk too! I'd keep an eye on the fin and see for yourself if there is any repair going on, but with my platy she seems to be doing well. The sites I looked up said it can take up to a month though.

yeah , fins do grow back, slowley mind!!

a few years ago i had a 4 foot trop tank , and one of my tank mates was a lovely blue VT betta , i also had a friend who kept barbs, and he decided to 'dump' some barbs 'tiger' while i was at work, when i got back the barbs had taken a good quarter of the betta tail!!

he did recover but it did take a good few months to grow back

morel to story---------------------------- DONT PUT BARBS WITH BETTAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or let your mates have a key to your house !!!!

Glad your friend recovered. What part of his body needed to grow back after you'd found he dumped Barbs in with your beta? ;)
