Hi guys its me again after a short time away from "Play DIY" ( as i like to call it ) ive decied to challange myself again to do another water bridge project, some of you may be aware of my last DIY water bridge if not heres a pic

a few things have come into play as to why im making this new project

1)After getting huge ideas in my head of connecting the Two chimney breasts in my house with a bridge i was told by the misses that i had to make something smaller to go in the living room

2) ive successfully started culturing water fleas (daph) in a bucket in the back yard and i know winter is coming and i want to move it inside but no way would i be allowed to plonk a bucket in the dinning room. (refer to reasones for not connecting chimneys for reasons why)

3) ive always wanted/ needed a breading / hospital tank

4) dwarf Guramis keep breeding but the babies disappear into the tank to be ate up by the rest.

5) one day i would like to mate my shrimp and they need seprate tanks (salty)( cant spell breckish)

ok now ive explained my reasons both to you, myself and my girl who will read this at some point. ill try to explain the ideas behind the design.

that image is of the main plan the wood work wont be exactly like that but you get the idea

WithOutWoodwork.jpg

this picture is without the wood work and you can get a clearer idea of how its all going to sit (ish)

Waterbridge.jpg

this is a pic of just the bridges ( the cubes will be elbows but they are almost impossible to draw in 3d program)

Pump.jpg

this will be the thing that puses the water around the tank. i have never used this kind of pump before but im 99% sure it will work help on this would be needed

basically its a air hose going into a the downward tube that pumps air into it creating a vacuum that will pull water into the pipe and down to the other end. anyone who has done something similar, help would be great

also ill be making the tanks myself
they will be a 15 cm cube

heres a rough price list

wood 5
glass 10
silicone 10
tubing 5-15
air pump 10
elbows 15 ( nice looking ones sent from online source )
corner clamps 5( need to build up tank perfectly )

all in all i reckon about 70-80 pounds which i guess is alot but its fun!
also these are pretty much top estimates ( i hope )

like i say any and all ideas are a great help

WEIRD i just came upstairs to have a rest from silicone stink and you posted right then lol

so far ive been and brought the glass and made one full tank the other is half done will post more in 10 dinners ready

Your DIY skills are impressive. More like professional!

The latest invention looks really cool! Really does. I like the 3d diagrams too.

However, i dont want to burst your bubble, but cant u just get a second hand tank for the amount your materials are going to cost?

i think your missing the point, its a challenge and something different to do.
I'm looking forward to watching this as it develops :)

just to keep everyone updated
i have built 3 of the tanks one leaked one didn't and one hasn't been tested yet. sorry i dont have no pictures coz my camra is abroad with my mum. but i will get some taken when she comes back

i dont understand why one of the 2 tested tanks leaked as they were both made the same way but i have re siliconed the leaking edge and will be testing tomorrow.
so far i have spent 7.50 on the glass and 6 or so on the silicone. so around 13 quid for 3 small tanks.
but like kewskills says its more about the enjoyment of doing it yourself and pushing yourself to do things some people think you can not do.
anyway at first i used masking tape to hold all the panels togeather to check they were right sizes and w/e ( lucky i did because the glass cutter cut 2 panels incorrect and i had to go have him cut them to size.) then i sort of used the guide on how to build a tank, i orderd some corner clamps from ebay but thought i would give it a go without. i made 2 tanks with masking tape then the corner clamps arrived, for a tank this size the corner clamps where more of a hindrance than a help.
