The afore mentioned tank has a complete 1m bubble wall alomg the back
Once again looks stunning - but is it anygood for malawis ????

I think so, because the have gills, no lungs, not an antabid. And they like the temperature a little on the high side, so more aeration is needed.

Think we've got crossed wires
my tank has a 1metre long bubble wall aong the entire back glass
so loads of airation :good:

But you said that you saw little evidence of aeration.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, I read your post wrong.

the best way to improve gas exchange is by agitating the surface of the water in the tank with your filter outlet or a powerhead or spray bar aimed at the waters surface or across it.... imho air stones or air curtains serve little purpose besides aesthetics

iv got a air stone at the back of my malawi tank but i must agree i do have the outlet of my external filter at the top of the water so it moves it around allot more, and also the food i put into the tank

Yup, breaking the surface tension is what allows oxygen exchange, a properly placed filter outlet will do that for you and since mbuna tanks are overfiltered due to heavy stocking, they are highly oxygenated. Bubbles on the other hand are small and cause little disturbance, thus minimizing oxygen exchange, simply put they're just for looks. :good:

Thanx for the replies
My idea is to have the bubble wall along the back - Rock structure in front of it
My tank is running off a fluval 405 to give surface agitation (may also have a fluval 2 internal)
Mr G09 your signature pic looks alot like what I have in mind :good:
