whats the minimum tank size a new can have and what newt is it.

id be intrested what do they need etc,

Depends on the species. Well i was going to do a newt tank, 10 UK gallon for 2. Half water half land for them and some good filteration. I read they need very cold water. What type do you want, then i can give you more info

I have a pair of chinese fire bellied newt, cynops orientalis, (beware as labels of chines fire bellied, japanese fire bellied and paddle tailed newts are often mixed up in shops. make sure yours is cynops orientalis as the others grow larger and have differing requirements). They are very happy in a 45cm tank, sorry i cant remember the volume, and have lived their for three years without a single health incident. Very hardy and interesting animals i would highly recommend them.

here are a link to a much more detailed caresheets for both japanese and firebelly newts. Caudata Culture website has sheets for most species of caudata, even other cynops.

http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Cynops/C_orientalis.shtml chinese firebelly

http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Cynops/C...rhogaster.shtml japanese firebelly

and sometimes patchytritons are sold as firebellies, these are called "paddletailed newts" as a common name. they have smooth skin, among other differneces.

In the united states where I live I often see "oregon newt" and "eastern newt" for sale. Like I said, whichever newt you come across caudata.org has a forum that is very active and their Caudata Culture section (http://www.caudata.org/cc/) gives detailed and accurate information reguarding the care of various caudata.

I had a friend in highschool who had Firebellies for 10 years +.
