so, based on this thread the subject of some kind of regular communiqué to members has been raised again.

It would perhaps only be pertinent if it contained interesting and relevant things to the recipients;

so,

anyone want to suggest any specific contents?

as a starter for 10, how about;

Setup guides (e.g SW tanks, planted tanks)
Mod profiles,
Product reviews............

The only problem with this is:
1) getting someone to put the newsletter together
2) distribution? link? or email everyone?

It's a lot of work. SH

I had been quite keen on the idea, but did not have the time to put the pieces in place. I have a function as admin to mass email all members. It could be a useful asset, going to discuss this in the mods forum. If a few members were willing to help with the content it would be much more likely to happen.

Thanks,will

The problem with it as a mass email letter would be ensuring everyone is interested/wants it.

For example, I have never had any interest at all in cichlids, and none really in livebearers. As I move further away from freshwater towards saltwater I would not be interested in a letter about how some Malawi cichlids are doing.

It could be as a sign up, or one could try and generate a list and make it opt out (one receives it unless one takes an active decision to withdraw from the list ).

The other method would be to simply post it as a pin under separate section or even have a new forum called 'newsletter' or even have a poll for a name. I don't think it's a bad idea. Perhapse even some of our graphics members could design a format? SH

i would gladly help with the news letter i think a news letter with a catchy look from people good with graphics ( i can help with that part 2) with subheadings which are links to a page in the forum with a brief description under it then you click on the link and get the full article this would allow to fit more information on the page

I think a newsletter mailing is a very good idea. It's like anything - if you're not interested in certain sections, don't read it :) I read 90% of the PKF (mostly bored commuting!) even though I don't keep the vast majority of the stock - but some day I might and it broadens my knowledge.

Anyway, over time I've registered with a number of forums - this being the only one I regularly frequent. But that said, every now and again I get a email newsletter from some of the other forums which will make me go back and look again. So I think it's a very good idea to "remind" people that TFF is here and being proactive.

Obviously when we sign up, there is an email opt-in / opt-out option. Those who opted out, simply won't receive those emails, so no spam :)

Volunteers are the key.

I have tried and tried to organise a newsletter for various other organisations I am involved with but if only one person contributes, it soon becomes boring reading........................
well like i said i have no problem helping

we could do like at the top of every tropical fish forum, a pinned sign up for the newletter. like a livebearer newsletter or a catfish newletter. I think we can find 1 or 2 people from every forum to write a newsletter every week or month. I think it would be very bemeficial to the tff community.

so is the newss letter thing going anywhere then

OK...I"ll move on this. I think it's a good idea. I'll post a poll..look for volunteers....bring it up with the mods.....then decide. SH

I'm happy to volunteer in whichever way I'm capable of - but guess that depends on what you decide the format of the letter should be etc.
