Newbie

nope but there were fish in there before
a friend told me her friend was getting rid of tank coz she bought a bigger one
and new i was interested in getting one so i bought it
Set it up and had it running (with no fish) for 2 weeks
have just noticed them today

no tank is clear bit of brown algae on leaves of plant (plastic) and pebbles
apart from that clean

i think if i remember right it could be to do with ammonia, i suggest you invest in a good testkit, the API master kt is highly reccommended by members on here,as it does all the tests you'll need and will last a good while :good:

Thank I will do that tomorrow as a fish store has just opened in town (much nearer)
Pets at home
if its to do with ammonia are the little worms harmful will I need to empty the tank?

thanks everyone for all your help its really appreciated
If not for the internet and fish forums I wouldn’t have a clue
ill test the water and go from there thanks again :good:

can't really remember what causes the white worms, if it is ammonia then you'll have to do frequent water changes to keep the level down as it is harmful to fish

just thought the worms could be due to over feeding, what and how much are you feeding the loaches?

bit of a miss understanding :)
i havn't got any fish yet i bought the tank of a friend left filter in with original filter media
and have had it going for two weeks (Havn’t had a tank before) and originally posted to ask if my 17g tank would be ok for Chinese hillstream loaches
An what I could put in with them as I really would like them in my tank
then I noticed the little white worms just appeared today

Usually brown algae goes away as your tank matures. so i wouldn't count on that for food. Also, Algae eating fish don't eat all types of algae so make sure you know what kind of algae your fish will eat.

so was the tank already cycled? if not i would let it cycle but first you have to decide if you want a fish or fishless cycle. read up on both. if you do decide to go with a fish cycle. look into some hardy fish that you would want to keep. hope this helps.
