Hi,

I am new to the forum, and have a three foot tank with community tropical fish.

I foolishly put bogwood into my tank without boiling the wood first, and have stained my painstakinly prepared water.

Any help clearing the orange tint to my water would be appreciated.

(Please don't say water change, as this is a new tank setup, and I have taken this long to get everything right).

:-(

Stick some carbon into your filter, that will help.

welcome to the forum :)

are you in the middle of a fishless cycle??

if so don`t worry too much as you have to do a HUGE water change at the end of it wich will remove most of the tannins,

After a few of your regular water changes (that you should be doing anyway) the discolouration should eventually go.

The discolouration of the bogwood is due to tannin's being released. This stuff is present in natural environment so it won't damage your fish - providing they aren't overly sensitive to water condition changes.

So, your usual water changes backed up with a carbon filter in your, erm, filter, should do the trick.

However, you should be careful if you have any other treatments or plant food added to your tank as the carbon will get rid of this, too.

BTW, I'm a new member to both the forum and the fish keeping hobby. I don't claim to have any experience, I am just good at research :D
