Hi Waterdrop

All my test kits are Tetratest ones.

and my Amonia is household ammonia 9.5%. It's called Amo Kleen by Barrettine. The only listed ingridient is Ammonia Solution 9.5%

here are my results...
Tap water…
Nitrite – 0mg/l
Ammonia – 0mg/l
PH – 7.5
Nitrate – 12.5mg

Tank – 13th October - 22.00
Nitrite – over 3.3mg/l
Ammonia – 1.5mg/l
PH -7.5
Nitrate – 25mg/l

I've been reading the articles about calculating the amount of amonia to use for the add and wait method and I'm a little confused. It refers to PPM but my results are in mg/l???

Is 1.5mg/l the same as 1.5ppm?

Yes, although parts per million and mg/L are technically different, for our purposes they are the same and we all use them pretty interchangeably.

[(I'll probably get this wrong, too tired..) The reason they are technically different is that ppm technically should only refer to two things of like "state" like "one green ping-pong ball in a million red ping-pong balls = 1ppm" but the things we are measuring are usually a substance dissolved in a liquid, so a mass in a volume (mg/L), which is more technically correct for all conditions. The problem is that the substance we express as a volume will vary by temperature and pressure, whereas the mass won't, so they are dissimilar. Since our things are about the same for our temps and pressures, using ppm is an ok shorthand and its what we use the most...]
