Im sorry but you probably get this question on here so much...

i really want a betta but i dont really no anything about them...

how many can you keep together in a tank?

im thinking about getting a small tank and adding one or two... is this ok?

also, ive seen many pictures of your bettas on this website in all sorts or shapes, sizes and colours but in my local fish shop ive only seen blue and red ones.... where do you get cool colourful ones from?

what do they eat as a stable diet?

You can keep more than one female together but they would usually need more space than a "small" tank. As for males you can only keep one at a time in one tank and you cant keep them with females either.

You can keep males in failry smaller tanks and they can be ok. They are carnivores so they eat live/frozen food or pellets. Some do eat the odd flake here and there.

You should also change their water regularly too.

Theyre fairly easy to look after if youve only got one.

As for the colours and tail types etc a lot of people get it directly from breeders rather than pet/fish stores.

Just to add more detail to this, if you want to keep females together, you need at least a 10 gallon tank with lots of hiding places, and keep at least 4 females together, so that any aggression is spread out among them. For a 10 gallon tank, 4-6 females is good. Also, get females that are used to being kept together. If they're used to being kept alone, some can be as aggressive as males.

BASIC BETTA KNOWLEDGE
Ok,
.Males cannont be kept together- Unless in a divided tank- I would recommend 3Gal minimum

.Males should not be kept with females unless for breeding purposes in which case should only be with them for 48 hours maximum

.Females should only be kept together in a 10Gal minimum with at least 4+ females and lots of hiding places- ideally planted well

Here is a link I think you should have a look at: Here

'SPECIAL BETTAS'
The 'special' bettas like you stated, for example; different finnage and colours. Here are some different types of 'special' betta tails and their abbreviations.

Crowntail (CT)- These could be described as having spikey finnage. Best of them have a halfmoon shape.

Halfmoon (HM)- These could be described as having a big disc as fins covering from their dorsal to their anal fin. Making it difficult to see where the dorsal, caudal and anal fins appear. Ideally having a 180o Angle.

Super Delta (SD)- These could be described as looking like halfmoons with a more upright dorsal fin

Double Tail (DT)- These could be described as their caudal fin has been split in two creating a 'double tail'

Veil Tail (VT) - These are the most commonly found in your LFS. Could be described as very long unshaped finnage.

Plakat (PK) - These could be described as short finned bettas. With slighlty more finnage than females.

BETTA BREEDER LINKS

KG Bettas - KG bettas (BettaMan on forums)
Joby's Bettas - Joby's Bettas (Joby on forums)
AquaBid - Aquabid (Look for the international sellers.)

I know I haven't covered everything as there is SO MUCH more to cover but this should give you a rough insight of what you are getting yourself into :p
