Just found this forum and im liking it so far so thought id post up my tank and say hi!

Well we just moved into my dads old house as he has moved further down the street, the problem was that he couldnt fit his tank in his new house so he decided to just give it me for free :D. He set up a smaller tank but disaster struck and his 2nd hand tank had a hairline crack in the base so it leaked everywhere, so he has ended up giving me all his equipment too which is great.

I am new to fish keeping but im under the watchful eye of my dad who has been keeping fish from cold water to Marine that i know of for the 24yrs that i have been alive, but he is generally letting me learn on my own too.

He left his old tank bare (other than a bit of sand, a fluval 3plus filter and a few guppies). A few weeks ago i decided to completely gut it and start fresh, im happy with it for now so a few pics below.
Had the water tested at my LFS and it came out almost perfect which im over the moon with, so treated myself to a couple of Indian Gourami's :)

Tank stats:

4ft x 1ft x 1ft (110ltr?)
2 x Fluval 3plus Filters
Interpet 200w Heater
Resun 3000 Air Unit
Black Gravel
Large amount of Rock
Few fake plants(untill i go live)

Also started stocking now :) So far we have:

2x Indian Gourami's
9x Black Tetra's
6x Cardinal Tetra's
2x Scissortail Rasbora's
1x Unknown species(pic below for identification)

All comments/advice/criticism welcome.

Couple of questions, how much further can i stock my tank?
and please could someone identify my Orange fish below please as we dont have a clue what it is and my dad forgot since purchasing it  -_-

So heres the pics

Tank before as i got it looking sorry for its self

Thanks for looking.

Hi :) Your tanks looking nice! The fish is a Crossocheilus aymonieri, or golden algae eater I believe. I would be careful as sometimes these fish can develop a taste for other fishes slime coat and will latch onto the side of them to suck it off. I had it happen. Try to make sure you putting lots of vegetables and algae wafers to keep it busy. Even when I did this, I still had it happen so just keep an eye out. They will also grow pretty large, some reaching 8-9 inches so long-term would outgrow your tank and they may develop black splotches or a black line as they grow.

I don't know if you should add many more fish as your pretty well stocked if it is a 110l. Maybe up the rasboras if anything. You do have pretty good filtration though. Maybe look into some bottom feeder fish.

I can't give any advice on the fish as I am new to fish myself but I think your tank is looking fabulous, you've done a great job with it. :good:

Thats a fab looking tank. Maybe treat yourself to a liquid based test kit such as API Master kit. That way you won't have to rely on the LFS test results which may change if they get a large delivery of a chemical they need to shift!

How quickly do the Golden Algae Eaters grow? As my dad who left it in the tank for me says he was told the same by the shop that they grow to about that size you mention, but its between 1-2yrs old and has never grown much he says. It's about 3" long at the moment. Ill look into the algae wafers, and he seems pretty happy with the other fish and doesnt really go near them.

I have not owned this tank long but iv got the bug already and im planning on a building a much bigger tank of around 6-7ft x 2ft x 2ft next year :D

Oh boy, its starting! :hyper:

Mine hasn't grown much either so I'm guessing they grow pretty slow, I was just letting you know how big they can grow. Mine was fine too until I saw it chasing around my gold gourami one day, just a word of caution :good:

I've just looked at your pics again. Is the tank level? It looks slightly out in the first picture.

I see it too, but I think its an illusion of the eye. The left side has the bubbles and the right doesn't, also J4M13 may have been standing a tad to the left when the picture was taken, making it look like that. I could be off though!

Ill get the spirit level on it later and have a check. I see where you mean that it doesnt look level.

Hi there!

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you're going to love it here, I've become addicted to since coming across it haha! What a great job you've done with the tank, really like the black gravel and white rock! Looking forward to seeing more pictures when you pop some live plants in :)
