Hi everyone,
my name is April. I'm new of course to this board I'm glad to have found this board. I used to be at another board but they acted like I should know everything about fish and kinda gave me the cold shoulder. I have a 20 gallon tank that is currently housing 3 mollies (1 lyretail molly male,2 common females, one is a black and the other is a dalmation coloring/appearance,still to be named ),1 blue female gourami Astrid, 2 swords,1 male male which is a neon green with a black streak and a deep orange female and she's huge, and last but not least my male wag platie. I would like to add a few more soon but am waiting to determine if one of my mollies is pregnant. I'll post a picture of the aquarium soon as I can get my webcam software to stop crashing Windows.
I live in eastern North Carolina (Greenville) USA with my boyfriend for the moment. I am 20 years old and I am also a betta addict lol. I used to have about 12 of them but recently I lost a significant number due to undetectable chemicals that were not picked up by ph,ammonia,dh,nitrite, nitrate tests in the water. Now I am left with 2 bettas, a beautiful royal blue betta I named Blue (I've had him since December) and a beautiful purple/violet betta I purchased recently named Lazarus. I'm also becoming a molly nut too *hehe*
I am new to the aquarium hobby but not to the bowl hobby (if you consider bettas a hobby *lol*). I am loving the aquarium. I recently set it up back in early or mid June sometime. I let it cycle a few weeks before adding fish (about 2 weeks, although some people reccomend 6, I decided to give it a go after 2). I'm in the process of redecorating it, little by little, as to not cause the fish any shock in the changes. The theme I'm going with is a greek/roman ruins theme. Not only for the fish is it taking time but for me since it's going to cost quite a bit so I'm buying the decos little by little. Eventually I am going to change the gravel too to fit the theme (the gravel in there now is multicolored and I personally don't like multicolored gravel unless it's gray/white/beige mixed, the gravel in there now is pink, purple, green, blue, white, brown eck...) Speaking of decorations, I've learned something. I've experiemented with which of my bettas to place in the aquarium and with each one I tried (this includes some of the ones that are now passed away that no matter which of them I chose, they decided that my one big castle in the aquarium would be their castle to rule over. One of my late fighters, Elling, loved it. He swam in and around it constantly, letting us know 'this is my territory, I am king here' *hehe*. Any of you guys have a betta like that with a domination over a certain aquarium decoration?
I'm not sure what all I could write about myself here so I'll stop here for the moment. If anyone would like to know more, feel free to ask Thanks everyone. I look forward to getting to know you all. Cheers!
