Newbie Filteration Question

Hi Everyone.

I'm new to tropical fish keeping and would like some help with filteration.

I have a 39 inch long x 13 inch width and 16 inch deep tank with an internal filter. I've been looking on the net and came across external filters. My question is can i have an external filter running with an internal one? also which external filter would you recomend as there are several.

Yes you can run an internal filter with an external filter but unless your planning on fish that produce lots of waste or are going to overstock the tank.

I would personally recomend eheim filters over fluval if your looking at external and make sure you get one that is self priming unless you like the taste of dirty fish water
