start with zoanthids.

thanks, the lighting is 18w, consisting of 2 double lights one on each side end to end with separate controls. also the hair algie had a hair cut today, removed loads so it looks really bare now,however didn't manage to empty it all.

Zoanthids need much more light than what 18W can provide, as they rely heavily on it. A better start would be mushrooms or palys as these can at least be fed.

never had a smell to it, well just abit salty. was just slimy.

thanks, their is 2 18w bulbs so does that make any difference?

zoas can be fed.....

Only the very largest of them. Mine do not feed at all.

I feed mine...I dont know why...they dont seem to take the food...but I feed them

Probably feeding the 'pods, not the zoas.

Well, I guess I wanted to see if it would affect their growth but no such luck. Probably does more harm than good as the uneaten food gets snatched by crabs and Im sure the polyps dont appreciate crabs crawling all over them.
