Good afternoon all on the forum! I'm a new user, I've been keeping aquariums for about 5 years now (Though not always with great results) And I was looking for some advice on a few things!!
Firstly...
I've got a 200L tank currently set up, which is being emptied and replaced, with an Oscar i've had for a few years who's grown out of his current tank. This will be a standard Cichlid tank, nothing fancy apart from a couple of rocks/wood etc etc.
However, all the current fish (Various, Cichlids, Polypterus, Catfish etc) will be going in a new tank I obtained for free from an acquaintance.
It's a (Don't quote me on this) Juwel Rio 450? It's got the stand etc, and is going to be quite project.
So, i've got quite a few questions, and was looking for some advice? Any would be GREATLY appreciated!!
I'll begin:
-Heating. I need to get a heater or two, I was looking at the Hydor 300W, but I can see that it's not going to be powerful enough to keep the tank heated... I'm also using (I know it might not make a difference) a root heating system, which will obviously provide extra heat. Would you think I may also need a sumbersible one?
- UV Steriliser. I got one free with the tank, do you use these at intervals? I would run it in line with the above heater I assume?
- Substrate... Used Red Sea for a few years, just wondering is it a good idea to get a couple of bags of Red Sea Flora, and then a couple of "Aquatic Compost" from my local Aquarium? Would mix them or layer them, depending on advice from you all!!? I didn't know what results it could provide?
- CO2. Going to use a standard Fire Extinguisher system. How long does a standard 2kg cannister last? Roughly of course... Just wondering if it's advised to stock up on them. They seem pretty easy to set up - any things I need to be extra aware of?
- Filter. I'm a bit stuck. I love the Eheim Thermofilter, but it's too small an output for my tank. So... I was thinking about the Professional 3e 2078 - http
