well, all this info you guys gave me i did talk to a few upper management about these things. and well this is a first of meny we are now going to carry a product called cycle.. it is the benificial bacteria for new tanks.. don't know much about it yet but if you know anything tell me please.

I have used it several times. It speeds up the cycle period by introducing bacteria into a fresh tank. Heres a link to the prodict info from the store I get it from. It's not much, but it's a start.

It's made by Nutrafin, I tried to find a website for them, but had no luck.

Its mostly useless I used it on my fishless cycle to no notyiceable effect, it also recomended to add very regulary which is way to expensive to do anyways I hear a similar competent product is biospira

The only cycle speeding products that will work are the ones that are kept refrigerated and have a shelf life. Bacteria can't live indefinitely. They must be refrigerated too. Any product that travels by truck, sits in warehouses and on shelves has probably seen temperatures of well over 100 degrees for long periods. Can you imagine this stuff traveling by truck for 400 to 500 miles through the mid-west in the dead of summer? Temps of 110 plus and then add another 50° or more to that for being in an unrefrigerated truck. Of all the products I have heard about, Bio Spira seems to be the only one that works and it only works if it has been properly handled and refrigerated. I haven't tried it personally but everything I have read leads me to believe it works. I will try it on my next tank.

ok so it wasn't the best choice but at least they are listening when there is concern on cycleing..
this stuff is only 5.95 in our store..
as for the other bio spira i have tried it and i like it alot..
but it is $11.95 plus it has to be refrigerated..

I was told by my lsf employees that you do need to refridgerate it. I used it 3 times to 'cycle' my tank, but i never tested the water while using it. I knew nothing about the chemistry of water back then.

It may not be the best product... but it's a start.

good luck rabbit lady. Bio spira is the only stuff I've heard good things about. Wallmart already carries stress zyme which sounds alot like what you are talking about. So I don't find it to be much of an improvement that they are stocking another nearly useless cycler. I say they need to hand out pamphlets on cycling, so that if people do a fishy cycle atleast they do it right.

i know it's a long shot but could you put a stop to the people in gardening netting fish. this is probably how most of the common pleco catastrophe's happen. They really do need a trained person in the pet dept. at all times, or atleast an automated fish calculator kiosk like that one guy suggested, too bad that'd put people out of jobs. good luck once again.

I've used it a couple times, it worked pretty good. It wasn't like AMAZING RESULTS though.

I've used Cycle myself and I have to agree with many of the previous posts that it is pretty useless. It made no noticeable difference that I could see. I do have concerns that the store will sell this product with the implication that any new tank will be instantly cycled, unless they also supply information leaflets like Torrean suggested.

Good luck on your meeting. I hope they're not one of those companies that doesn't want to hear about stuff like this and you still have a job after it's over. I think the number one thing that WM could do to make things better is exactly what Torrean said: Put a trained person in that department for 40+ hours a week. These aren't bags of what ever laying on the shelf and requiring no attention. They are living beings that need food and clean water. i am guessing some of you don't know me but i do hand out leflets that i got off this forum about cycling and fish them selfs.. also i am taken them with me for the suggestion...
rdd1952 just to let you know i will have a job after this and wm is a company that listens to us... also just to let my friends here know i am applying for management and hope to make a difference that way too. i will make pets my main concern as a manager to get the difference made ... it will be my pet peave as to say...
