Hi! I'm excited and a little nervous to be signing up for a fish forum but I'm hoping it will increase my knowledge of fish and inverts

I've really only been serious about fish-keeping for two years now, but I have had a few tanks in the past. When I was around five I took home a fish from a fancy dinner gala who had been in the vase for decoration; all I remember about it was that it was purple and long (hence it's very clever name, Purple). It lived in what I think was a 1 gallon bowl and I don't think it lasted very long, unfortunately. When I was in late middle school; my mom thought a good way to teach my siblings and I responsibility was to get a tank with fish (a very familiar story for some). We ended up with a 20 gallon and a few mollies, tetras, and platys. The fish tended to come and go within a few months of each other and I've always felt bad about that. We ended up giving the tank to a neighbor who bred fish, and I didn't get another tank until very late in high school. It was a ten gallon and held a beautiful boy betta who charmed me for a year before he died from what I now know is dropsy. For a tiny while it held some African dwarf frogs with the betta, but now i know better and wont be purchasing ADFs again unless they have their own tank.

Right now I have two tanks set up, a 5.5 gallon and a 10 gallon. The 5.5 has a Nerite snail, a handful of pond snails, and two guppy boys that I took in from a friend who didn't know how to sex them and had a breeding frenzy; they're happy and active thankfully! I'm not sure if I want to add to them considering the size of the tank.

The ten gallon also has pond snails and a female who I rescued recently as well, and she's dropped two batches of fry since I've had her (about three months). The first was dropped on June 2nd and the most recent was July 1st. I was shocked when she dropped the second set; I didn't know guppies could retain sperm from mating! I'm assuming she's pregnant again since she looks a bit rounded.

I also have an empty 29 gallon long tank, which I'm going to try planting within the next six months. I'm very very nervous about this and have been researching it a bit frantically. I hope to eventually add cherry shrimp, which I adore, and the survivors of the guppy fry. I know that there can be some problems with guppies being nippy, so I am not rushing on planting or getting shrimp until I'm sure of everything.

Aaand yep! I look forward to learning from all the great people on this site!

Welcome!

Yeah, I remember having the livebearer tanks and betta bowls. They're embarrassing memories now

A 29 gallon sounds great! For a really good start in fishkeeping, I'd recommend reading this if you haven't already. I've found that when I had guppies they weren't really that nippy, so I think stocking the 29 with shrimp and guppies will be ok. Planting I'm not good with, so I'll leave that to the experts.

Welcome aboard!

Lots to learn here, so dive in. And let us know how that 29 gallon comes along...

Thank you so much for the welcome!
