New To Nano

Hi I have a Aq3 tank 14"H x 15"L x 15"W. I think it works out to be about 52 liters or 11 UK gal approx.
I currently have some fresh water Tropical fish in there but I'm going to get a larger tank for them and was wondering if my Aq3 would be OK for a Nano reef tank.
I have never had a reef tank and would like to know what I'll need. I know I need more equipment than for my Tropical fish.
I bought a book on setting up a Marine tank but it doesn't have a clear list of what to buy.
I don't need brand names. (Unless it's a must have item as there are so many brands that it just gets confusing.)
Just a basic shopping list that tells me what and how many of each item I'd need. Please can someone help.

i have not yet started setting mine up due to funds but as far as my research has showed me you will need:
a protein skimmer
filter
heater
sea salt
RO water (from shop)
live rock (approx 1 kilo per 2gallon) (dont know this is essential but its the research i've done for mine)

dont know how helpful this is from some1 not yet to set 1 up but tryin ha

Thanx, this gives me a good idea of what I need to look for in the shops I might try to find a compleate Nano starter tank as It may be easer for me and I should be able to upgrade the parts.

ok....sorry not to be more help as i have not yet started my own that is just based on my own research

One advice I can give you both is to start with almost no livestock. Maybe two shrimps, or a hermit or a snail, and nothing else.

Live will be so much easier then.

When you have overcome several algae outbreaks and probably minor issues and your water has less than 5 ppm nitrate and 0.1 ppm phosphates (or better 0.03 ppm) then keeping that nano will be a piece of cake. Otherwise, you'll get lots of headaches.

The less livestock the more your system resembles nature. It's not a question of waiting months or - apart from the algae outbreaks - it's a question of starting with consistently good water quality from the beginning.

I set up my nano first as newbie in marines and that costs me much time while my pico runs almost by its own. Difference is the number of livestock.
