Im kinda new to having mollies. I have a 29 gallon tank with 4 black mollies. They seem to just be laying on the gravel not swimming around or anything. Is it common for them to do that when they first enter there new home or is there something wrong? This is the first time it happened to me out of 4 years of fish keeping.

I'm quite new to mollys too, but my 4 sailfin have always been swimming around. Always looking for food I think. They occasionally take a breather on the bottom, but its very rare.

Mine are always fairly active especially when I go near the tank. They swarm against the glass where ever I'm standing, their tank is in the wall and if I'm in the kitchen they go to that side of the tank but if I go into the lounge they move over to that side, even when I go to answer the phone they follow me and watch me the whole time I'm on there. When no ones near the tank they are still very active.

Could be stress or new tank syndrome. I have had it happen with livebearers before and they do not live long.

The last time I got mollies I used cycle when they where added and none where lost to stress or new tank syndrome.

They could also be sleeping, but if they are doing it all the time, then I would say one of the first 2.

Try adding some aquarium salt to the water, maybe it would help.

Two died this morning >_<. They were both surprisingly the pregnant ones I got from the fish store. I got a total of four. three female and one male. The male is very active and one of the non-fat female is a little active. That female usually rests on the bottom of the tank until i walk near. I used "Stress Coat" for the water since it says it removed chlorine and lowers stress.

PH = around 7.0 (the color in the tube was darker then the one in the card)
Nitrate = 0
Temp. = 78-80

I just got 5 guppies today. 2 of them died this morning. Other 2 mollys are still active and find.

What are your ammonia and nitrite readings? As those are the ones that are usually lethal to fish. Also...why do you have no nitrates? Do you have one of those lucky houses where there is none in the tap, or are you cycling? What is your water change schedule?

I'm thinking, since you are having fish dying, it's something with water quality. Unless, are all these fish coming from the same store? They could just have not very healthy fish... -_-

yea Nitrate is 0 surprisingly. For Ammonia, i lost my chart to tell if there is any but i think theres none since its clear. I bought the fish from two seperate stores. I don't think it has to do with the water since the others seem really active.

I have one black molly that has given birth about 3 times and mainly sits on the bottom of the tank. I don't think she will last much longer unfortunately.

Hi, my Mollies "sleep" floating in the water. They never lie on the bottom, they only look for food on the bottom of the tank. They seem to be permanently hungry despite having a good diet and being fed twice a day. :)

At the moment the other mollys seem to be alive. Deaths are more rare now. Now i have in my 29g tank 2 black mollys, 1 guppy, 3 other fish i dont know about. Is it normal for my guppy to have one or two fry a day? Everyday i see one or two swimming in the tank and i catch them and put them in my 10g. Shes still fat but is she going to let them all out at once or just slowly let them out?

I exspect your mollies died due to how pregnant they where, the stress of the move from store to home, proberly stressed them so much, they died. If there just stting on the botton there ill, so something much be bothering them. You say there are some fish in the tank you know nothing about any way of finding out what they are.

Guppies should birth all in one go, she proberly birthed and there hiding, and then your spotting them.

Her gravid spot is still big, everyday i always see at least 4 on the top of the tank. Both of my males died and my tank is now full of females. All i know is the unknown fish name is a livebearer type. I checked the tank for about an hour looking for other babys but i never find any.
