New To Marine Aquariums :)

Hello everyone, i have just set up my aquastart 500 65litre tank and was looking for advice on the best ways to keep it clean and tidy and what the best fish to begin with are? any help would be much appreciated.

How about telling us a bit about your plans? 65 litres (approx 14 uk gallons) is very small for a first marine tank and very limiting regards stock, for example you will only be able to keep a small goby in there, a shrimp and maybe a hermit along with a couple of snails. This might be your intention and I'm sorry if you already know all this

I started off with a nano of 126 litres and now have 400 litres

Is there any chance you could have a slightly bigger tank?

Although a tank that size makes a pretty pico with a zoa garden and cleaner shrimp as the main interest it is just so hard to keep water stable with so little

so is it difficult to keep a marine with just a 65l tank? dont really need too many fish just want it to look nice..wouldnt mind a shrimp or two x

Well, yes it is, there is less margin for error - however if you are dedicated and do good weekly water changes then it is do-able. However let me warn you, this is a very addictive hobby and you will not be happy for very long with such a limited tank most of us upgrade very quickly which then costs us probably more in the long run

If i were you I would maybe think about getting a larger tank of approx 125 litres, second hand - you wouldnt regret it, but you will probably regret setting up such a small tank and quite quickly.

Have a read of some of the journels in the Marine Journel section and start making some plans. If you decide to go with the small tank we will be happy to help you

thank you...what fish/crabs etc would you reccomend to begin with then? x

If I had a good lfs who was trust worthy I would probably buy the salty stuff rather than making my own.

its called an aquastart 500..comes up when typed in google. havnt got an under gravel filter so should be ok x

yes iv bought the tank but it came with a normal filter. fine by me though. cant wait to get it up and running x
