New To Fish-Keeping!

And please don't tell me I'm overcrowding my tank, I've read too many comments where people are beating others for apparently 'overcrowding'.
Last week I went for four male guppies (to start with) and I love them!

A lot of the members here have kept fish for years and really know their stuff and if they tell you something its because they have your fishes best interest at heart, It is up to you if you listen or not, However not listening to good advice can be detrimental or fatal to fish, We have all been where you are now and made the same mistakes.

Did you finish cycling your tank? Did you ever check your water hardness?

I'm just asking because if you just started cycling two weeks ago, and it's not finished, and you add that many guppies to an 8 gallon tank...you could be looking at some dead fish from an ammonia spike one morning.

Just from recent new to male guppy experience....I would NOT put more guppies in there! I had, mind you, HAD, 7 males in a ten gallon. Now I only have six because one got ill from being stressed. The males do not "play" in the sense your referring to. They are trying to mate and are being territorial to the other males. How do I know this? Because my poor guppies tails are chewed up from nipping each other! 10 gallon is too small for even 6 guppies. I'm working on getting a larger tank(55 gal) set up so they can be truly happy and I can add schooling fish as well. When I move them I won't be using a 10 gallon as a tank anymore. Just a hospital/quarantine as needed.
